Goal Setting Using Categories
One of the great things about a new year is that you have a chance to “put aside” some of the projects you didn’t finish last year, kind of like doing a clean sweep and starting fresh! You can decide if there are things you want to carry forward and incorporate them into your new goals. Or you can realize that those things don’t seem as necessary right now and drop them from your “to do” list.
A key to moving your goals forward is to write them down and look at them every day. Be as specific and detailed as you can be. Here are some categories to help you identify goals for every area of your life. For each category, there is one part for what things are like now and then another place to write down how you would like that category to change.
- 1a. Here’s what my social life ( family,friends,etc) looks like now.
- 1b.This is how I want my social life to become.
- 2a. Here’s what my career currently looks like.
- 2b. This is what I want my career to become.
- 3a. This is how my health is now.
- 3b. This is how I want my health to be.
- 4a. My current financial situation is...
- 4b. This how I want my financial state to be.
- 5a. Today my personal life (hobbies, passions, personal development) looks like this:
- 5b. This is how I want my personal life to be.
Setting your intentions or goals and writing them out creates a road map for yourself. It helps you get focused and stay on track. Try it! You might be surprised at how many goals you achieve!
