Turning Dreams into Goals
Question: After last month’s column, I made a list of many “big” dreams. How do I turn them into reachable goals?
Answer: There are many ways to reach your goals. Here are a few points to help you get there:
- Think about what really excites you, what motivates you to action.
- Talk with someone you trust, share your goals with them and ask for their support by being an honest sounding board, reminding you to stay focused and “on task.”
- Discover and remove any blocks that are preventing you from moving forward, such as focusing on the past instead of seeing your present reality.
- Practice the “law of attraction”: focus your thoughts and emotions on visualizing what you want in your life. The clearer the picture you create, the more likely you will draw those things to you.
- Write down your goals/desires, read them daily. Break each larger goal into smaller parts. Check off each step you accomplish until you reach your desired outcome.
- Visualize the completion of each goal; “see” yourself achieving the outcome you desire.
- Celebrate your success.
- Set your new goal/dream!
